At the recent IEA EBC Annex 82 meeting, focused on Energy Flexible Buildings Towards Resilient Low Carbon Energy Systems, the FEDECOM project introduced its concept for enhancing local energy systems integration in Europe. The meeting was hosted at University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Wien on September 14-15, 2023.

Annex 82, part of the International Energy Agency’s Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme, investigates how energy flexibility in buildings can contribute to the stability of energy networks amid the increasing use of intermittent renewable energy sources (RES). FEDECOM’s initiative is to increase the penetration of RES by creating more integrated energy systems, which found a receptive audience at the meeting.

Participants from various international backgrounds, including stakeholders in smart energy networks, recognized the potential benefits of FEDECOM’s strategy for energy sector integration. FEDECOM’s concept of using a cloud-based platform to facilitate the management of energy systems aligns with the Annex’s pursuit of resilient energy networks.

The interaction at the Annex 82 meeting has offered FEDECOM a platform for discussion and potential collaboration, highlighting the project’s alignment with European strategies for energy systems integration and the wider objectives of enhancing energy resilience.
